This resource is great for using during your word work time, centers, small group, or independent work.

The focus is on 20 double consonant beginning blends: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, sw, tw.

Each blend book contains the SAME activities for each of the 20 beginning blends mentioned above. There are 6 half-pages per mini-book to help reinforce reading, identifying, and writing words containing the specific blend. Those activities are…

– Cover page with beginning blend and corresponding picture
– Fill-in-the-blend with three corresponding pictures (i.e. __ink)
– Highlight-a-word (find the words containing the blend)
– Spot-the-sillies (find the nonsense words mixed in among real words)
– Trace and draw the word (2 pages)

This pack ALSO includes, 20 blend cards and a 8×11 blend poster that contains all 20 blends and a corresponding picture.

*PLEASE NOTE* In most cases, I tried to use words that involved basic spelling patterns that are most appropriate for kindergarten and before-Christmas first graders. I tried to avoid words that contained long vowels, diphthongs, digraphs, etc. However, in some cases I was limited by the English language and only had so many words to choose from, so some words may be a little more advanced…but offer a great reason to incorporate a teachable moment!!!! Right?!
