Is it seriously almost MARCH?! It feels like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year and now here we are anxiously awaiting all things Spring. In this post, I’ll share my favorite March activities, with themes from rainbows and clouds to leprechauns and weather.
THE SCIENCE OF MARCH
The Science of March is absolutely brimming with activities and resources for you to successfully implement four weeks worth of science and cross-curricular activities into your primary classroom. It covers clouds, rainbows, spring weather, and the sun, moon, & stars!
BOOKLIST FOR MARCH SCIENCE
If you decide to use The Science of March resource above, or if you don’t and you’re just looking for good March-themed reads, this post includes several fabulous titles. Themes include clouds, rain and rainbows and will pair nicely with a variety of cross-curricular activities. So, if you’ve already begun prepping your plans for next month, I highly recommend incorporating a few of these books, as each contain solid literature about the theme.
FREE RAINBOW MINI BOOKS
This resource includes four FREE mini books for your study of rainbows — and who doesn’t love a good freebie?! Students will not only learn about rainbows, but raindrops, prisms and light & color as well. PLUS, they’ll have the opportunity to personalize their mini books with all the colors of the rainbow.
CLOUD SCIENCE
It certainly wouldn’t be March without a few clouds! Teaching and learning about clouds can be SO fun because kids love analyzing the sky, identifying different kinds of clouds, and determining the weather based on their cloud knowledge. This resource is packed with cloud activities for science, literacy AND math that will turn your kiddos into little cloud experts in no time as they build their vocabulary with new content-specific words.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY
Top o’ the morning, to ya! St. Patrick’s Day is Tuesday, March 17 and this Packet O’ Fun is full of fun ways to incorporate clovers, leprechauns and all things green into your class curriculum. It includes math tub, literacy center, and supplemental activities that are appropriate for first grade, but could be used to challenge kindergarten students or remediate second graders as well.
WE’RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD
After all, March is about all things green, so why not take advantage of the opportunity to bring The Emerald City to your classroom? I absolutely LOVE me some Wizard of Oz and it is a great way to incorporate creative writing into your curriculum while exposing kids to a classic story. This unit contains math, writing, reading, and science activities, including activities for journals, art and more.
I hope March is extra fun in your classroom this year — and if you use any of these activities, take pictures and tag me on Instagram @babblingabby! I’d love to see!
