Holiday Home Tour

First of all, an honest confession.
My house never ever ever ever looks this clean.  Just ask Brandon.  I put away and re-put-away fifty toys, stepped on and crushed at least twelve puffs, shuffled the kids to opposite sides of the room, and hid stuff out of camera shot – all in my pajamas – for the sake of these ‘Holiday Home Tour’ pictures.  So, now that I’ve cleared the up, I can show these pictures with a clear conscious, and you can let out a sigh of relief that my house probably looks just like yours right now: like a family with a 6-year-old, a baby, and a husband who likes to leave empty cartons on the counter lives here.  Me?  Oh, I’m *never* messy 😉
Shall we begin the holiday home tour?
I don’t know if I have a theme, really.  I was going to say Natural + Sparkly, but that just sounds like an oxymoron.  I will post a source list below each picture if I can remember where the items are from.
So, I guess we’ll start the holiday home tour in the family room, where we spend the majority of our time.  Painting the cabinets white and the interior of our shelves to match the room color has made a world of difference!  So much brighter.
Close-up of the mantle/fireplace.
pre-lit trees from Tuesday Morning / NOEL stocking hangers from Target / mantle greenery from Hobby Lobby
white tree garland + red reindeer ornament from Target
Lanterns from Walmart for $14.88 – my favorite buy all season!
bought this nativity in 2011 from The Christmas Shop in Gatlinburg, TN
{I do wish it was more diverse…on the lookout for a new one!}
newspaper trees from Hobby Lobby / wreath from HomeGoods / wreath ribbon from Hobby Lobby / M hand painted by me from JoAnn’s Fabric / bottlebrush trees from Target / boxes from IKEA / authentic wooden crate from old farm / apothecary jar from a yard sale / lantern from HomeGoods

Becks and I decided three years ago that Nutcrackers would be our ‘thing,’ so we add a new one to our collection each year and he gets to pick it out.  Also, I do not pass up bottlebrush trees.  LOVE THEM.
little gnome family from HomeGoods / JOY sign from Hobby Lobby / buckets from Target / stockings from Land’s End

I love this little gnome family.  Me and B on the left, and Faith and a bearded Becks on the right 🙂
This little space is the the left of the shelves by our windows.
star from HomeGoods / PEACE sign from HomeGoods / window from a yard sale from my dad
Taped to each pane of glass is a printable from the She Reads Truth Bible studies I’ve been doing.  The *perfect* place to display them!
To the right of the shelves, I took a risk and put up this yard sale find book rack from Pottery Barn (and anyone with a design background is probably gagging).   I’ve hemmed and hawed about what to do with it, and have moved it from each room in the house, including the kids’ bedrooms and the home school room, but this place seemed the most fitting.  Easy access for all.  And, a great place to display my seasonal favorites.  PS. I am a kid’s Christmas book hoarder – this is only a partial showcase of what I own!
This is an IKEA console table that I’ve moved back behind the couch…
shell and white containers from Christmas Tree Shops / tins from Hobby Lobby / plate from local boutique / blanket from HomeGoods / sign from Target Dollar Spot / greenery from yardsale
wooden sled from HomeGoods

The piece de resistance, our Christmas tree, perfectly clad with a falling-over-star that I got from The Dollar Tree the first year we were married.
ornaments collected from all over, but some of our favorites are from Bronner’s in Michigan / tree skirt is burlap from Hobby Lobby / yarn ball garlands are from HomeGoods

The dining nook…
table is a yard sale find / chairs are from IKEA

Stop what you’re doing right now and add real White Spruce Sprigs to your list –  cheap find from The Home Depot that I’m obsessed with.  Versatile decorating accessory and the smell is AMAZING.  I used it in our centerpieces in both the family room and the dining nook.
wooden crate from HomeGoods / burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby / runner from Target / faux candles from Christmas Tree Shops timed to light around 6pm each night
Snag a bag of cinnamon pinecones while you’re at it.  I bought a bag of 20+ from Christmas Tree Shops, and they look great just about everywhere!  {NOTE: make sure they’re not too heavily scented, otherwise you’ll be nauseas – trust me.}
star and yarn ball garland from HomeGoods

We’re displaying our Christmas card collection across our windows this year.  I have no idea where the Santa clips are from, but they’re so cute!

On the back of each chair are these little metal chalkboards with the names of some of the reindeer.  LOVE how these turned out. Check out this DIY tutorial to make your own!
On top of our fruit/veggie shelves in the kitchen…
sign hand-painted by me / PEACE from Target (I think…)
I don’t do much on the counters because I like to bake during the holidays and need the space.  Our elf, Frick, made this shot since we’re not allowed to touch him, lest he lose his magical powers and be unable to report back all the wonderfulness that Becks is (or isn’t) doing this time of year.
white container from Christmas Tree Shops / snowflake from HomeGoods

The writing on this little sign was definitely Pinterest-inspired, but I forget who made it!  If you know, do tell!
sign from Hobby Lobby accented with a few wire berries
Our little coffee station…
napkin holder and Christmas tree napkins from HomeGoods
Looking into home school room from kitchen…
We ended up moving the kid’s table and chairs in here when we put the tree up, and Becks and I both agree we love them in this room!

Looking from home school room toward family room…
sign hand painted by me / Oh Holy Night sign, metal numbers, frame, & ornament holder thing from HomeGoods / shelves by B / pic from Canvas on Demand / Merry Christmas sign from Target / wreath ornaments from Dollar Tree (another DIY)
Just the garland going up the stairs…
Looking up from the foyer…
On the front porch…
I got a little lazy with my chalkboarding and put a metal sign from HomeGoods as a stand-in.  It’s working out just fine.

Our living room is completely empty (formerly the home school room), and I forgot to take a pic of the formal dining room, which is barely decorated anyway.  If I ever build a home, it will not have these two rooms…too much space and they’re kinda useless 😛
Well, there you have it!  Holiday Home Tour is complete 🙂
Happy Monday!
