Pumpkin Painting with Washi Tape

If you need an EASY art activity to do this fall with your kiddos, this pumpkin painting with washi tape is perfect! It requires very little prep, few materials, and is so simple you could even do it with toddlers.

I’m a big believer that the process behind the artwork is more important than the final product, but I think you’ll find both very rewarding in this case. Your kiddos will get the chance to practice following directions and exercise their fine motor skills through cutting out the pumpkin outline, the pulling/tearing/smoothing/pinching the tape, and painting the pumpkin. A beautiful pumpkin results.

MATERIALS

pumpkin printable, scissors, washi tape, paint, paintbrushes, water, cup

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out the pumpkin.
  2. Use washi tape to tape the pumpkin down to a larger sheet of paper (or a table).
  3. Run several stripes of washi tape across the pumpkin in whatever design suits your fancy.
  4. Paint the pumpkin.

  5. Remove the washi tape.
  6. Lay flat to dry and admire your pretty pumpkins.

This would be a great art activity to do after reading any number of pumpkin-themed picture books!Kid art is my favorite kind of art, which is why it's so fun to incorporate directed drawings into the primary classroom. This pumpkin directed drawing is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, and would be an excellent addition to your October themes, whether you're studying fall, pumpkins, or Halloween! This post includes a FREE printable!

PS. If you’re a teacher, I have a WHOLE POST about my favorites + fun activities to pair with each. Read more HERE or HERE , or simply click one of the images below!

Happy creating!
