Dang, I love kid lit. Like, a lot. We moved recently – as in twice in eight months (WHO DOES THAT?!) – and the amount of books we moved was outrageous. I’m not even exaggerating when I say thousands. #teacherprobs All that moving gave me a good chance to sort and organize my classroom library books, so I could easily access them when preparing for a certain theme. Thematic teaching has always been one of my preferred teaching methods because I feel like it makes learning relevant for students and cohesive across subjects.
In preparation for September, I just recently went to grab all of my apple books and thought I’d share with y’all my faves! Even if you’re not teaching thematically, read-alouds are so important to our students and I couldn’t escape a school day without doing at least one (if not two!). Besides the stories you get to share, read-alouds are also the perfect tool to expose students to new vocabulary, seasonally relevant material, and generate organic conversation with and between students – because they love to share how they connect to a stories!
