Preschool Learning Activities at Home

If you’re looking for preschool learning activities at home, you’ve come to the right place! Within this post, there are multiple activities for engaging pre-k kiddos at home or the classroom.

The activities in this post are great to use while at home during the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. As a certified K-5 educator who taught kindergarten and first grade, I am sharing what we are doing in our home to stay on top of curriculum while quarantined at home. Of course, you can use them anytime of year in the home or classroom, too!

PLEASE NOTE: Life is busy as a work-at-home / stay-at-home/ homeschooling mama right now, so my directions here will be brief! Please follow me on Instagram @babblingabby where I will be sharing my daily activities and saving them in a story highlight!

Easter Bunny Craft

My kids received some new watercolors from their grandparents yesterday, so they were eager to put them to use today! They painted the pieces to an Easter Bunny craft to start our day out.

I love kid-art. I love the way they use color without limit and have little care for the ‘rules’ we impose on ourselves as we age (i.e. coloring in the lines!).

They turned out so cute! I love a good seasonal crafts. I also love giving them the opportunity to use their creativity and practice using scissors. DOWNLOAD EASTER BUNNY CRAFT

Handwriting Practice

Today’s tracing activity included more diagonal line practice and following curved paths of motion. DOWNLOAD PATHS OF MOTION PAGE

Brain Breaks Jar

Yesterday, we broke out the Brain Breaks Jar. They LOVE it! I let them each choose a folded square and we do whatever is on the card. Today, we pretended to jump rope while counting to 50 and had a dance party!

Dice Game

I love working with dice because a) kids love them b) excellent little subitizing manipulatives! (Subitize is a fancy word for being able to recognize a quantity of something without counting.)

I wasn’t able to hunt down any dice today, so we used a dice website I pulled up on our iPad. There are multiple sites for this, including this one. Of course, they loved ‘rolling’ it.

After rolling the die, they would dot a balloon in the correct column. (The goal of this game is to completely fill the balloons in one column.)

This is an easy, fun way to practicing subitizing. And, I’m telling you, the dice rolling alone will help keep them engaged 😉 DOWNLOAD DICE GAME

ABC Hide-n-Seek: Letter Sounds

We played ABC Hide-n-Seek: Letter Sounds today! I pulled out an alphabet cookie, we named the letter, and made its sound. Then, we searched for a picture on the page that began with the same sound.

We continued playing until every picture was dotted.

Letter X Mini Book

As we wrap up learning to make the letter X, we made a mini book that included words that began or ended with X. DOWNLOAD LETTER X MINI BOOK
